Torun 2021 Countdown: Darko Pesic

Torun 2021 Countdown: Darko Pesic

Each day in the run up to the 2021 European Indoor Championships in Toruń, Decathlonpedia will feature some of the athletes competing in the heptathlon. Today, the multiple Montenegrin record-holder, Darko Pešić.

Toruń will be Darko’s second European Indoor Championships, having competed close to home in Belgrade in 2017, where he finished 6th in 5984, a national record at the time.

Since then, Darko has had injury challenges, and his comeback was delayed a little by the global pandemic in 2020. But he has put the additional year to good use, and he delivered a sensational performance as a guest at the Serbian indoor Championships earlier this year, where he not only exceeded 6000 points for the first time at age 28 but set another 4 national records on route. His score of 6036 – itself a national record - qualified him for Toruń, and his PBs of 7.95 in the hurdles, 2.08 in the high jump and 7.24 in the long jump were all more national records to add to his vast collection.

Darko is a fast hurdler, a great high jumper, and a superb shot putter – he’s thrown 16.69 this year. He is fast over 1000m and has a decent 60m and long jump, but most importantly he is an athlete fired up by strong competition, from which he’s been away too long. He is good to go in Toruń!
